Life lessons
I’ve had a relatively soft life. My parents are firm middle-class, I’ve done well with my career so far and my past relationships were sweet and mostly soft. Like most people that have lived in Nigeria all their lives, I’ve had my fair share of frustrations, annoyance and anger at the way the country is being governed. However, knowing the difficulties a lot of people face daily, I will say life has been good to me. That was until last year when life as I knew it ended. I faced a personal crisis with my spouse, that affected our families and generally my sense of self. Prior to last year, I had never set foot inside a police station or an EFCC holding center. I had never received so much random advice and I had never previously doubted my sense of self. Going through that experience (which I can’t share specifics about publicly) made me truly understand that life is fragile and familial love is the ultimate love.
